David LANCRY: 2028, an alumni on the VENDEE GLOBE to support the fight against cancer

23 May 2025 Alumni

David LANCRY (ESB63) is an alumnus who has made the ocean his other field of expertise. For some time now, David has been preparing a new challenge, and he has made an appointment with alumni who might be able to bring together partners interested in the fight against cancer and this major French event.

"After two single-handed transatlantic races aboard a 6m50, I realized that being a skipper wasn't going to be my vocation. I chose to go back to my first profession, construction economics engineer, while retaining the sea as an unalterable passion. INTRODUCTION SKIPPER: DAVID LANCRY OBJECTIVE: VENDEE GLOBE 2028 So, for the past twenty years, I've been sailing around France on traditional boats, devoting my winters to marine carpentry and successfully taking part in numerous regattas. At the age of 50, my maritime career is rich in experience and challenges: successive owner of nine sailing boats, captain of a flotilla of 150 boats, founding president of the Bélouga Lorient association, speed record holder for the same series in 2024... Often maneuvering solo, my reputation is well established... However, despite all these adventures and the lessons the sea has taught me, three dreams remain to be fulfilled:
- To take part in the Route du Rhum,
- Take the start of the Vendée Globe,
- To round the legendary Cape Horn.

In addition, with two friends personally affected by cancer, we have set up an association to use this ocean racing project as a springboard in the fight against the disease. In addition to offering substantial tax deductions, 10% of the budget will be donated to the Ligue contre le CANCER. This dossier details the figures and stages of the project, but above all I'd like to present it to you in person. I hope you enjoy reading it, and welcome aboard this extraordinary global media adventure.
