ESB visits its Quebec partner

06 May 2025 Alumni

As part of a trip to Quebec City to review the partnership between ESB and Université Laval and the follow-up of double degree students, a meeting between alumni and students was organized thanks to Franck Michaud, ESB research professor.

The meeting took place on Thursday, March 27, 2025, and featured two highlights.

The morning was spent at the Art Massif plant in Saint Jean port Joly(https://www.artmassif.ca/fr/). With ESB students on a double degree program (DD since 2023) at Laval University, we were welcomed by Gustavo LOZANO CÔRTES (ESB 78), who heads up the design office. He is quality manager for this company, which specializes in the manufacture and installation of very large, curved glulam beams. We had the opportunity to discover their facilities, including their "in-house" press, as well as an exceptional numerically-controlled machine for cutting large-scale frameworks!

The evening took place at the Université Laval pub. Alumni were able to get to know the DD students. Gustavo (ESB 78), Adrien GAUDELAS (ESB 83) and Arthur AMY (ESB 88) shared their experiences with Imenne, Dimitri, Luigiano and Leo. Adrien, currently with CecoBois and recently awarded a doctorate from Laval University, was able to explain the links between research and industry in Quebec. Time and distance constraints (Quebec is a very big place) meant that it wasn't possible to bring all the alumni together for this first event, despite the interest shown, but it was agreed that this rendez-vous would be offered again locally, on an annual basis, via students and alumni.

AIESB would like to thank Franck Michaud (teacher-researcher at ESB, Head of the Mastère Spécialisé Composites Biosourcés in association with the Ecole de Design de Nantes) for proposing and organizing this Canadian event, and for writing this article!
